It seems like it has been forever figuring how to get the prop off mostly because it has been on so long or it was over tightened when installed. When? I don't know, but I will find out as I gather more evidence on the engine and airframe. It looked like someone tried to remove the prop while it was in storage, locking pin in the prop nut was gone and all the nuts were missing off the engine nose case and the bolts were missing holding the regulator together.
In the last report we tried to get the nut off with a wrench, that didn't work. So I decided to cut the hub to get access to the nut. The hub is rusty and there are plenty of spares out there and the bronze nut will need to be split open. I was really hoping to save it but it was broken from the wrenching. So the Dremel tool came to the rescue. After cutting an access slot into the hub using cut off wheels, 2 inches deep, I drilled a hole down the length of the side of the nut, being sure to be away from the threads. Ground it into a slot with the Dremel being sure not to touch the threads. Then took a big chisel and split the nut lengthwise. I soaked it with penetrating oil for a couple days, knocked the nut counterclockwise with a punch and sledge and off it came. The shaft is in new condition, I hope that is an indication of the engine condition.
